It has been said by many American Indian artifact collectors that Grey Eagle's "Artifacts of the Future" (re-creations) could "pass for the real thing". The real thing in a collector's eyes is an ancient aritfact.
Grey Eagle does not pass his work on as being ancient. To do that would be unethical and dishonest. His re-creations are throughly studied and based on artifacts that he has seen in private artifact collections. His pieces are indicative of artifacts found in the region of the Southeastern U.S. They are the real thing, in that they are of indigenous origin, made from stone that is indigenous to the area and they are created by a Cherokee artist. They just aren't ancient....yet.

This group of Grey Eagle's "Artifacts of the Future" consists of small, unique stone carvings. They are very rare in artifact collections, due to their size. Pieces like these would be easily overlooked when searching the earth for ancient artifacts.

EAR SPOOL
To insert the Ear Spool, the ear lobe was split, then wrapped around the center portion of the spool. Clay and pine pitch were packed on the wound until it healed. The properties of the pine pitch eliminated infection and held the clay in place. When the ear had healed, feathers, beads or other adornment were worn through the hole in the center of the spool.
